Are Crocs Non Slip? A Review

Crocs are a super practical and also comfortable slipper, they are essentially a ‘clog’ a type of shoe from Scandinavia which are traditionally wooden.

They continue to grow popular as a house shoe, as well as a fashion item, across the US as well as globally.

A huge part of their draw is the fun colors you can get crocs in as well as how customizable they are through the holes in the Croc you can also put fun little buttons in so you can make the shoe your own.

Are Crocs Non Slip? A Review

However, for those who want to wear Crocs around their house and aren’t necessarily wearing them for anything more than comfort and practicality, many of them will wonder how safe Crocs are.

Their material, to the naked eye, can seem a little slip-worthy which can be a turn off for those who are prone to slips and falls, as we all can be.

Crocs are also loved by hospitality and medical employees as well as other occupations which require you to be on your feet all day, so making sure they are non-slip can be really important for these groups.

In this guide we will look at Crocs and how ‘safe’ they can be as well as the ‘models’ of Crocs which are best for safety. Keep reading to learn more.

Is The Classic Croc Non Slip?

The classic Crocs are a unisex item, it is the classic design of a clog and often the most common type of Crocs you see around.

The sole of the classic Croc is made from Ethylene Vinyl Acetate which is quite a grippy material like rubber. Moreover, the classic croc still has a physically grippy design on the sole of the shoes.

Ridges in different directions and of varying texture can create a non-slip surface for certain.

We would suggest if you put on regular slippers or sliders, made of rubber/plastic, or a fabric material, these Crocs would certainly have more of a gripping factor than these products.

If you are worried less about slipping on something, but more worried about your feet slipping around within the croc and causing a fall there is a solution in the design also.

The classic design doesn’t actually have a support for the heel like a normal shoe, rather they are designed to be ‘slip on’.

Yet, there is a useful strap, for lack of a better word, that stops your crocs flying off your feet while you walk. If this could be something that would annoy you, don’t worry as it can be moved forward so that they act more as a slipper.

In any case, this non-slip pattern on the sole of the Crocs, something known as a ‘tread’, is actually above the industry standard, trademarked, and tested.

FootArt, a leading UK realtor of Crocs, tested the non-slip qualities of this tread and found that Crocs were found to be slip resistant under certain wet, dry, soapy, oily, and greasy conditions.

So you can rest assured that the common Croc is totally slip resistant and is tested to back this up. Of course, we recommend taking caution with your steps as you would any shoe.

While the classic Croc does exhibit this great trademarked tread, we recommend double checking each model you are looking at.

Moreover, older models of the ‘classic’ Crocs may also not necessarily exhibit this design. In other words, it’s best to check the actual one you are buying rather than assuming.

So, the classic Crocs range does have a very non slip quality which is above industry standard, we would happily recommend them as non slip shoes to anyone, and there are many tests as well as customer reviews which support this statement.

Our advice is to check the range or model of Croc you are buying by simply looking at the sole itself.

Which Crocs Have The Best Non-Slip Quality?

You do not already know of the different no slip ranges that Crocs have released. The Crocs Lock range entails a few different models but are ultimately the most practical and safe Crocs out there, let alone some of the most safe shoes you can wear on shift.

These ranges are made with the workers of the world in mind, particularly those who will spend a lot of time on their feet, namely medical and hospitality workers but the design can extend to other jobs where you are on your feet.

Crocs Bistro Clog

Crocs Unisex Adult Men's and Women's Bistro Clog | Slip Resistant Work Shoes

As you can imagine from the name, this type of Croc is specifically made for those in the hospitality industry.

Their main focus is a four pronged approach, easy to clean, lightweight, non-slip, and also provide enough support to safely get through your shift without injuries.

One of the most obvious differences in these clogs to the other designs Crocs create is that they don’t have holes in the top.

This is really important if a little outside of Crocs styles. Of course if you are working in a bistro as the name suggests, spill something hot on your feet and it’s going to seep through to your skin, potentially.

To drive this point home even further, they are waterproof to try prevent this sort of thing happening. One thing we would’ve liked to see is some stronger padding on the top of the shoe.

Many companies require their chefs or workers, when handling dangerous stuff, to have shoes that have some decent padding in them.

If you are a chef and you drop a knife it could go through these with more ease than some other shoes, but no shoe can 100% prevent you from damage, which is important to remember.

Another big thing with these shoes is that many report that, as they are made for those on naturally long shifts, they often wear down after around a year. This can add up over the years if you are constantly having to buy new ones.

One good thing is that if you are a server or someone in the public eye then you may be required to have ‘smart’ shoes or just shoes which are black and nondescript.

This is easy with these shoes as Crocs apply a few different colorways which do include just plain black. They can be very ugly, but they will certainly be pretty grippy and slip resistant and very comfortable too!

However, these are certainly up there as some of the most grippy and non-slip shoes you can get for work.

They are designed to meet many industry standards for safe shoe wear so you can bet these are some of the most grippy shoes out there, you certainly won’t fall out of these shoes, no matter how much you may want.

On The Clock Crocs Clog

Crocs Unisex On The Clock Clog, Slip Resistant Shoes for Women and Men, Black, 7 US

Don’t say this one too fast or you may risk tripping over your words.

These Crocs are designed specifically for those who are part of the Medical world. Most medical occupations are on the feet and as emergencies take precedence you can easily end up on your feet all day without a mere 5 minutes of sitting down.

In this situation you need to be able to rely on your shoes so you don’t slip on shift or risk your own safety in other ways.

Agai, the slip resistance is a paramount feature, again it’s likely many medical professionals will be required to wear some form of non-slip shoe so they can avoid accidents at work claims.

More importantly, these shoes are really secure, there’s no slip on capacity, they are a closed heel. You have to put your feet in them like a normal shoe which can be important on the wards.

Once more, the closed toe design, or not having holes in them, is another fundamental safety feature in the medical profession to avoid accidents.

Moreover, the shoes are even more engineered for extra comfort than the Bistro as they are made for those super long graveyard shifts nurses have to take on.

Another important feature is how easy to clean they are which is never more important for a nurse not only to clean up messes that are made, but to importantly stay hygiene friendly while ona ward.

As these shoes are closed heel and toe we suggest double checking your sizing before purchasing, we also suggest wearing socks with them for these reasons too.

While the material that crocs are made from is super slip resistant, if you don’t wear socks they can get quite sweaty in there, this is why Crocs have holes in the first place.

Can You Manually Make Your Crocs Non Slip?

There are a few ways you can technically make your Crocs more non slip, make them non slip if the tread has worn off, or to make older Crocs without the tread slip resistant. Only do this with old Crocs you are happy to let your DIY out on.

One nifty gadget that can make almost any shoe extra grippy and non-slip is ‘Shoe Goo’, not to be confused with Shoe Glue which is for fixing holes.

Shoe Goo is an adhesive that can stick to most thing, but say if your Crocs have worn their non slip coating off you can easily apply some shoe goo to the bottom and once dry you have another non slip coating.

Your purchase of shoe goo comes with these little plastic trowels with which you can apply the good and make your own tread on your shoe to increase grip.

Another idea is to get some sandpaper out and make the bottom of your Crocs extra coarse and rough. This rough texture on the bottom of your shoe can increase grip and help make them non-slip to an extent.

Obviously, these manual DIY methods are effective at times but don’t expect your shoes to meet the safety standards the aforementioned jobs require, this is for a quick fix to stay safe if your shoes are worn.

Final Thoughts

It should be clear that Crocs are often a very non-slip shoe. Crocs actually have their own trademarked tread for most of their new models which have tested the ability of Crocs to remain non-slip under certain conditions.

Moreover, it should also be clear that Crocs make many different models of their clo design, many of which are even more focus engineered in order to prevent slipping for those who need it most, nurses, doctors, chefs, waiters, and more.

More so, it’s important to state that no shoes are 100% slip resistant or 100% safe. You can’t drop a sharp knife onto these Crocs and expect them to bounce off, you also can’t expect Crocs to prevent every single trip in your life.

You should always be cautious about your footing as you should be with any foot as well as other hazards in the workplace, but Crocs can certainly help you feel safe when spills and other slip hazards occur in the workplace.

It goes without saying tha Crocs can provide some of the most comfortable and non-slip shoes on the market for certain circumstances and situations.

We hope you can find the right model for you on their website, they could be your dream work shoe, no matter how ugly they can make your feet look, it doesn’t compare to the glow of working a night shift and coming home without blisters.
