First Timer in Washington DC

Kristin Clark in Washington DC

Prior to our #BloggersDoOBX trip, I decided to make a mini trip to Washington DC {for the first time!} and take the 5 hr. road trip with a few other gals to North Carolina. I’m so happy I was able to visit our nation’s capitol, although I wish the weather would have been a bit better. It was surprisingly still pretty chilly even in May, and the city was suffering from a 17+ day rain streak. Guess I’ll just have to make another trip in the future {those cherry blossoms are calling my name}.sky views + travel style: identical ripped jeans + sneaks

brunch spread at Founding Farmers

Jessica + I outside the Eisenhower Executive Office Building {where all the White House staff works}Brunch at Founding Farmers – OMG in your month. First off, plan to either make a freakin’ reservation or be there super early in the morning. Along with an appetite. We did neither {the later we had covered}, and basically stalked the bar until we gathered 3 seats together. Hey, whatever works. The carrot cake pancakes were to dieeeeee for.

Brunch at Fig & Olive – S I X H O U R brunch I might add. The girls and I got a little carried away with the hospitality of the staff + our amazing, always friendly waiter {despite our loud voices + most likely inappropriate topics of conversation}. This wasn’t my first time at Fig & Olive, but the menu never disappoints, and we did try a few new things this time around. My highlights would include: zucchini carpaccio, beef carpaccio + bottomless mimosas.

Dinner at LincolnChristina & I had a heart to heart one night while the other gals had plans, and it was amazing to catch up and really connect. She was actually my very first blogger friend, and it’s so nice we’ve remained close and supportive of one another. Anyhow, Lincoln was surprisingly DELISH! We picked it because it was super close walking distance for our hotel, but were pleasantly surprised by the comfort food menu – all served small plate style! Can’t say I’ve seen that combo before. But totally worked for us, that way we could ‘indulge’ in mac & cheese with a much smaller portion.

Dinner at Oyamel – in the running for the best Mexican food of my life. Table side guacamole, homemade corn tortillas, slow braised beef tacos, I could go on and on. And if you’re a margarita person, their margs are famous for their ‘salt foam’ topping.

Light Dinner at Cava – Chipotle-style Meditterean deliciousness. The menu is fresh, authentic + paired with a variety of freshly squeezed juices.

White House Selfie! Along with a ring of the Santorini skyline I picked up on your honeymoon The touristy trio! w. Cathy of Poor Little It Girl + Jessica of My Style VitaSince this was my first time to DC, and such a short trip, I stuck to the usual touristy things: visit to The White House {north + south lawns}, Lincoln Memorial {along with a photoshoot}, Reflection Pool, US Treasury, food, food + more food. No museums this time around, but hopefully this won’t be my only trip. We also witnessed a fancy motorcade block – I swear walking around in DC is like walking around in a scene from House of Cards or Scandal…in THE BEST way possible. It’s so crazy to think all the important, life changing decisions for our country are all made there! It was a pretty surreal.

Other notables: drinks atop the W Washington DC rooftop bar, stay at the Westin {great, walkable location}, and grab wine at a wine bar in Dupont Circle area.

Sounds like an amazing couple days in Washington. It’s definitely one of my favorite cities. I feel like you could spend forever testing out brunch spots alone! I’ll have to check out these places next time I go. 🙂
