Home Decor – Living In Color Print http://livingincolorprint.com Personal Fashion + Lifestyle Blog by Kristin Clark Wed, 06 Jul 2016 16:03:20 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.5.3 Shoe Wall / Office Reveal http://livingincolorprint.com/built-in-shoe-wall-and-office-space/ http://livingincolorprint.com/built-in-shoe-wall-and-office-space/#comments Wed, 08 Jun 2016 09:00:32 +0000 http://livingincolorprint.com/?p=16754 White Lacquer Desks | Ikat Chairs via TJ Maxx | Cow Print Rug Squares c/o | similar Faux Fur Shag | similar Lucite Wastebasket | White Coat Rack, turned Handbag Folder {best purchase ever}

It’s here, it’s finally here – my office reveal! Just in time for us to move haha {2 weeks and counting}. So if y’all remember, this space in our townhouse has come a long way…oh hey circa 2013. As you can see, some things have remained the same – can’t seem to part with my neutral ikat chairs or gold candle containers I made into marker holders, but a lot has changed. Like, the addition of my infamous {ok kind of, not really…only if you follow me on IG} SHOE WALL!!

I’ll admit, it took Sterling quite a while to come around to this whole concept of building a floor to ceiling wall of shoes. But if you know anything about me, I’ve had a shoe obsession my entire life {yes, even pre-blog}. As my collection continued to grow {even with monthly donations leaving the house!}, he came around to the fact that this built-in was truly a fantastic use of vertical space {i.e. getting my shoes off the stairs and floor of our bedroom}. I worked with a local contractor to make the shelves adjustable {slanted or flat} for re-sell purposes, and the dimensions to the tee in order to fit as many heels as possible, along with some storage down the center. I couldn’t be happier with how it’s worked for us this past year. Granted, I still have to clear out space to make room for new pairs regularly, but I’m getting better at eliminating old styles that I can live without. Now that we’re about to leave this beautiful space behind, I’m already plotting my next office/closet renovation…on the to next!

Spring Cleaning http://livingincolorprint.com/spring-cleaning-the-container-store/ http://livingincolorprint.com/spring-cleaning-the-container-store/#comments Thu, 21 Apr 2016 09:30:27 +0000 http://livingincolorprint.com/?p=16354 As I began packing for the next few weeks of travel for Sterling + I, I realized not only did I need to ensure we were all packed up for the next 2 1/2 – 3ish weeks {wedding weekend + honeymoon}, but that our house needed in order for when we came home! As Mr. + Mrs. for the first time no less! No one likes coming home to a dirty home, so I made it a point to take advantage of The Container Store’s amazing selection of Laundress products and get to spring cleaning. A few tips I would note when you’re tackling your house…let’s be honest, it can get a little overwhelming.

oneEquip yourself with all the tools you’ll need to accomplish your Stepford Wife goals. Ha. Surface spray, laundry soap, room spray {this one is my personal fave – it’s so light + airy, AND exclusively at The Container Store}, etc. The Laundress, aside from having beautiful packaging {I’m such a sucker for good branding}, truly does have amazing products. I’ve used them previous to being sent a few new samples to test out, and can attest to the high quality of product. Yes, they’re eco-friendly, but they still work extremely well + have amazing scents.

twoFocus on ONE room at a time. I struggle with this one. But it you try to say I’m going to clean the entire house today, chances are you’re going to fail at that attempt, and then just be annoyed with yourself + your still messy house. Spring cleaning takes time, so give yourself that at least. Focus on tackling one room a day, or many even one room per weekend!

threeDon’t be afraid to get rid of stuff! Sift through, bag it + donate! My personal rule of thumb I try to abide by – after every season, if I didn’t wear something at all that’s been sitting in my closet from the same season prior {i.e. winter to winter}…it’s gotta go. Don’t forget the ‘ol saying….one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, so don’t be afraid to make someone else’s day 😉

Ready to get going on your own spring cleaning?! You are in luck my friends….The Container Store is giving you just that little extra push you need. Now – May 15th you can check out Kiss Clutter Goodbye Weekend events nation-wide! For you locals, visit the Boca Raton or Kendall Miami stores on either April 23rd +24th or the following weekend April 30th + May 1st. There will be prizes, demonstrations, appearances – the whole nine yards. They’ll also have Goodwill reps to accept donations of new or used clothing or home items {win win}.

New Paint Job http://livingincolorprint.com/new-paint-job-ace-hardware-adobe-hut/ http://livingincolorprint.com/new-paint-job-ace-hardware-adobe-hut/#comments Tue, 22 Mar 2016 23:00:51 +0000 http://livingincolorprint.com/?p=15870

I’ve been wanting to re-paint our master bedroom forever, and have just been putting it off. Life has been so hectic with wedding prep, it was tough to commit to a timeframe to knock it out. BUT thanks to an amazing partnership opportunity with Ace Hardware {and the addition of a new LICP assistant} I was thrilled to have an excuse to take time out of my work week and give our bedroom a mini makeover!

We’ve come a long way since my last Master Bedroom reveal. So this time around, I wanted to update our master with softer, warmer hues. Something that felt more soothing, and more cohesive with our grey bed frame {an addition after the green walls}. Looking through Ace Hardware’s 31 Days of Color collection, I was a bit torn between two shades, but ultimately went with Clark + Kensington’s Adobe Hut as an accent wall in the room. We paired that with Clark + Kensington’s Mushroom Risotto for the remaining walls to really brighten up the room, but still keep that sense of warmth. I seriously COULD NOT be happier with this new color scheme of ours. Now it’s time to get some new pillow shams, and finally get some artwork up on those walls! More home decor to come on this room, I can promise you that.

Be sure to check out Ace Hardware’s 31 Days of Color + tune in each day to see a new color revealed! In addition to revealing a new daily color throughout March, the Ace Paint Studio will also offer you expert tips and inspiration for your own DIY projects, as well the chance to win* a $10,000 paint make over and daily gift cards! * No purchase or payment necessary to enter or win.  Open to legal US residents residing in the contiguous United States and the District of Columbia who are at least twenty-one (21) years of age and who are homeowners.  Sweepstakes will run from 3/1/16-3/31/16.  Full rules located here.

Another day, another color to inspire your home projects. Every day in March, Ace is unveiling a featured color and giving you a chance to win a $10,000 room makeover! To learn more visit thepaintstudio.com.

Embellished Gifts http://livingincolorprint.com/5-tips-for-embellishing-gifts-with-ebay/ http://livingincolorprint.com/5-tips-for-embellishing-gifts-with-ebay/#comments Sun, 06 Dec 2015 10:00:05 +0000 http://livingincolorprint.com/?p=14898

TIP #1 | DONE-UP: This is a great addition for Mom. I’ve simply wrapped the gift with a single metallic ribbon + added a poinsettia click on! These can be found in the tree decorations area, generally for about $1 each. A little goes a long way with impressions!

TIP #2 | NO CURL: This is a little trick I do as Christmas Eve is winding down, and I cannot physically {or mentally} wrap another present. There’s a specific ribbon I stock up on each year {about 1/2 an inch thick ‘curling ribbon’} that’s perfect for a ‘non curl’ method. The trick is to simply use a lot of it! You start with a base ribbon wrap {the standard four side wrap}, and then cut smaller pieces of ribbon to tie on individually. Once the single pieces are on, you can also cut them in half down to the center knot {just adds a little flare + makes it seem like there are more strands}. That way it kind of resembles a messy snowflake {or I like to think so at least}.

TIP #3 | RUSTIC: Add string {comes in different colors!} to your favorite paper. This is seriously dumby-proof. There’s no pattern to the string, you simply wrap it around the package a few times and tie the ends together. I’ve also added a ‘chipboard letter’ {found in packaged alphabet sets at your local craft store} to personalized the gift. This looks like you spent way more time wrapping then you actually put in.

TIP #4 | MANLY/NEUTRAL: Layering a burlap ribbon + string around a more glamorous wrapping paper, gives the presentation an ‘elevated’ feel, without being too feminine.

TIP #5 | GLAM: Add some serious glam to your package with glittering ribbon! Looping the edges with a fun way to jazz up your ribbon technique + do something a little different. Add an inexpensive embellishment with an ornament {could be a simple snowflake as this, or an actual bulb}.

Tis the season of giving, and I’m not sure about y’all, but I’m already half way done with my shopping lists. I’m a ‘shop year round’ type gal, that way nothing sneaks up on me! eBay is exploding with one-of-a-kind, vintage, and hard to find pieces. Take the Balmain for H&M collection for example. Sold. out. everywhere. Everywhere…except eBay!

I picked up these gorgeous chandelier earrings {brand new, in the box of course} for one of my girlfriends, and I know she’s going to be SO stoked. Who wouldn’t be?! They’re kind of amazing. Regardless if you’re shopping for a friend, relative or co-worker, eBay is a great stop to score amazing products at truly unbeatable prices {or in my case, practically unattainable for lack of inventory elsewhere}!

space c/o my amazing photog’s studio

Tile, wood planks, carpet, rugs we all have them in our homes, and sometimeshave a hard time deciding what to go with. I know I struggle with it! So many decisions, and they all seem so final. So when I discovered STAINMASTER® Signature Squares™, it was the perfect alternative: floor decor that give you freedom + options.

I received a few different color palette options to play around with, but ultimatelyended up going with the neutral ‘candlelight’ hue in ‘eastern vibe’ + ‘barefoot’. Ipositioned my squares in a checker board pattern, which not only fits perfectlywith the minimalist, cozy décor {fully styled by yours truly}, but also adds dimension to the floor + overall room concept. Another amazing bonus thearrangement options are pretty vast, so you can rearrange the shape, size, style + patterns whenever you’re up for a change!

So go ahead and break the rules and create the perfect rug for your space with STAINMASTER® Signature Squares™.

Summertime Bedding http://livingincolorprint.com/summertime-bedding-blue-bell-gray/ http://livingincolorprint.com/summertime-bedding-blue-bell-gray/#comments Wed, 17 Jun 2015 09:00:14 +0000 http://livingincolorprint.com/?p=13546
Floral Bedding c/o Bluebellgray | Hair + Makeup thanks to Glamsquad

Ah, summer is in the air {although I suppose it ‘technically’ doesn’t hit until June 21st} so I feel it’s only fitting to switch up your home decor to incorporate a few more seasonal references. While summer may not give us those obvious options of a string of lights or leaf wreath, you can totally splash a bit of summer with color {one thing I think y’all are all too familiar with seeing here on LICP}!

When I was introduced to BluebellGray, not only did I immediately fall in love with the uniqueness of Scottish designer Fiona Douglas’ prints + patterns, but I also couldn’t even imagine a more suitable bedspread that embodies my personality. As someone who truly loves adding bits of color throughout my life, whether it’s in my wardrobe or at home, Taransay was a natural fit. The process of how Fi creates these beautiful home centerpieces is pretty incredible: from hand painting each design, using a printing method that allows every brushstroke + color to be accurately captured, to sourcing the highest quality fabric materials from the UK. The designer is even branching out to tableware/serving ware {hello backyard brunch}!

Now if only Sterling would let me splurge on a hot pink couch to match! Ha…I can dream.
